Apple’s Education Marketing division had a problem – large institutional customers were delaying their purchase of large quantities of mobile devices because of complexities of bulk deployment.
We were asked to build a “demonstration” solution that would show how an institution could simply provision iPads with a set of simple scripts.
We built an initial functional proof-of-concept that allowed the application to connect to Apple’s OpenDirectory server, authenticate users, and install a custom-tailored configuration file to their mobile device that set up all services – email, calendars, etc. This was presented to the primary stakeholder as an “iteration 1” deliverable. Upon approval, we developed a higher fidelity application that satisfied the solution narrative they were trying to present to their customers.
