Apple Education IT Programs

As a solutions architect, Dave Black led the multi-phase, four-year development of a consulting and technical marketing program for Apple Asia out of the Beijing, China office.

Phase 1 – Develop an Apple Lighthouse
We led the partnership with the Western Academy of Beijing to deploy a 1-to-1 laptop program that put personal laptops in the hands of students from grade 12 down to grade 2. In addition to end-user technology, Dave deployed multiple network and “local cloud” services.

Phase 2 – Learn and Revise
We performed user testing and deep empathy to understand the needs of educators and their students. This informed revisions to the technology and processes for on-boarding students, and training staff.

Phase 3 – Create Regional Lighthouses
The learnings from Western Academy of Beijing informed the development of lighthouse schools in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Shanghai, Singapore, and Korea. Each country required a deep understanding of “context” – resellers, infrastructure, staff trainability, and so on.

Phase 4 – Finalized Program and Transitioned to Regional Team
Developed formal country-based training programs with local system engineers.

This program led to Apple achieving nearly 100% marketshare amongst international schools in the Asia region.
